Project: Architecture Heritage Building Analysis
Architecture Culture & History 2 (ARC 1323)
The project for this subject is divided into three parts:
- Part 1: Written report (group work)
- Part 2: A3 presentation board (individual boards)
- Part 3: Verbal presentation
The frst part of the project required all students to select their particular heritage building to study and analyse. My team selected the Pre-war Shop lots along Jalan Raya Timur located in Klang. After walking along Jalan Raya Timur, we finally decided to focus on a Pre-war Shop lot called Heng Huat Printing Service. From there we had to analyse and study the shop lot to determine the shop's architectural elements. We interview the owner to obtain more information on the shop and the surrounding area.
We learnt that no many changes were done to the shop lot over the years. only minor renovation were done. We discovered that this shop lot had a mixture of several architecture elements such as the front facade has elements of the Early Transitional Style shop lots, Neo-classical elements such as the tuscan pillars and the window arrangement is similar to the Early Modern style shop lots.
After completing the report, my team mates and I had to make our own individual boards based on our analysis and study of the Pre-war shop lots along Jalan Raya Timur. We divided our parts. I had to focus on the concept of the shop lot. Once the completed, we had a verbal presentation.
I have learnt the importance of teamwork in order to successfully complete a group project. I have also discovered a lot about the history and the architectural elements of the Pre-war shop lots along Jalan Raya Timur in Klang and the importance of preserving those buildings.
