Building Construction 1 (ARC 1523)
Project 1: Experiencing Construction: Experiencing, Documentation and Analysing Construction Process
The main purpose of this project is to introduce the construction process to students through real life project. Groups of students are to have site visits to several sites to obtain information on how the construction sequence works. We also had to learn about the materials and technology used for construction.
Through the site visits my group and I discovered how the construction procedure works. The process starts with the foundation from the ground all the way to the roof which is the top. We also learnt that there are varous types of roofs, foundations, walls and other parts of a structure that are used for construction depending on the site and user preference.
As a group, we produced a complete documentation of all the information we obtained from the site visits. We produced sketches and drawings with detailed explaination of how parts of the building are constructed. We also showed the types of material used for construction.
Project 2 is an integrated project with Architectural Design Studio 2. I had to apply everything that I learnt about the construction process into designing my proposed retreat house in Pantai Kerachut. I had to propose the proper materials to be used in constructing my retreat house. The type of foundation, superstructure and roofing had to be suitable with the surrounding environment. I also had to show how all the structure of the retreat house goes together in either a section, plan or axonometric drawing.
I had learnt to improve my technical drawing skills and I have a better understanding on how the building structure works and go together during construction. I have also learnt how to produced detailed drawings on construction processes and materials.
