Project 1: Case Study: Identifying Innovative Passive Design Strategies
For this project, we had to identify the principles of heat transfer in relation to the building and people and defined them. We had to understand how the architect created a thermally comfortable environment within the building for the people. Besides that, we had to find out what methods were implied to create a more energy efficient and eco friendly building.
For this project, my group decided to study and analyse the 1st Avenue Building in Malaysia and the Marina Barrage in Singapore. Both were considered green buildings. Both structures had green design features that reduced the energy usage of the building and prevented any wastage. The project also taught me about the importance of the building orientation. Both buildings that we selected were properly orientated and places with extreme exposure to the sun had proper sun shading devices to reduce solar heat gain.
Creating a green and environmentally friendly building is very important these days due to the climate change. Applying green features would not only reduce the damage done to the environment but also help reduce cost throughout the entire life cycle of the building savng money.
